Teenage Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Posted by admin | Health | Saturday 30 April 2011 8:05 am

What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in teenagers is a difficult and complicated disease for physicians to diagnose and fathom.

Teens with CFS feel overwhelming tiredness and lack of energy that remains for months with no conspicuous cause. It becomes extremely complicated to get out of bed, get dressed, or even eat. It interferes with school, work, and even what anyone does for pleasure such as going to a movie or playing an instrument.

Generally teens get better sooner and recuperate from CFS more wholly than adults do.  Therapy and support groups can be extremely helpful for teens with CFS.  Just Google “cfs support groups” for a list of acessible groups near you.

What Causes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Quite candidly, no one can say positively for sure what the exact cause is.  Until now, no one actually had a agenda geared to actually healing CFS sufferers.

How Is CFS Treated?

Typically experts mention that the following way of living changes can help:

1.   Include regular, carefully planned exercise in your regular routine.  For a few unfortunate teens, the disease is so severe that exercise can only mean doing a couple of hand stretches or trying to pick up objects. Teens with CFS should pace themselves while doing any physical task that requires extra exertion.   Collaborate with a physician to find out what’s right for you — you don’t want to overdo it and get discouraged.  People with CFS are often “out of shape” so getting back into exercise in stages helps.

2.   Eat a healthy diet.  Specialists agree that people with CFS should keep away from heavy meals, alcohol, caffeine, and large quantities of junk food. A registered dietitian (RD) or nutritionist can endorse menu plans to help reduce occurrences of fatigue.

3.    Think “alternative.” Acupuncture, massage, and stretching, seem to help a large number of teens with CFS but it’s a good idea to keep your specialist informed about any other treatments you’re trying.

Coping with CFS from day to day:

Keep a positive approach and concentrate on getting well in place of negative, discouraging issues.  Even without knowing the accurate cause of CFS, teens who take action and approach their condition with a positive outlook fare much better.

Some more efficient and effective suggestions that will help you to cope with CFS:

1.   Rest is recognized as a critical treatment, but a careful balance between work and rest must be maintained.  Learn to pace yourself. Know your restrictions and work within them, day by day, week by week, month by month.

2.   Know and express your feelings.  Powerful emotions are a part of this illness.  Recognizing emotions (rather than suppressing them or pretending you’re OK) can help you find out what’s behind your feelings and enable you to deal with them rationally.

3.   Write it down.  Keep lists and make notes to help keep yourself on track and lend a hand to your memory. It can also be beneficial to keep a daily diary. This will enable you to share information that might help your specialist. You can in addition track trends; for example, if your energy is high at a particular time of day and low at another. This will help you comprehend when to exercise or do other needed tasks.

4.   Allow more time to do things, especially tasks that need more concentration or physical exertion. Seek reinforcement from family, teachers, and friends.

5    Get information about CFS from trustworthy sources. There’s so much misinformation and confusion about this disease that it’s definitely important to know and trust your sources.

According to the CDC, almost half of all CFS patients experience partial or full recovery within 5 years after the CFS occurrences begin — once again, the outlook is better for teens than for adults.

Earlier we mentioned that “Until now, no one actually had a program geared to actually healing CFS sufferers.”  Well finally, a former CFS sufferer himself,  Clive L. Haslam (M.Sc, PG.Dip)  , has developed a program called “Total Healing In Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome”.  The program promises to give you everything you need to regain your health and help you recuperate from CFS. If you or your teenager have tried everything else with no relief you should absolutely obtain your own personal copy of this remarkable progam.  You can request your personal copy right now by clicking on this kids teenagers with chronic fatigue syndrome link.

Pain Messages Are Constructed By The Brain

Posted by admin | Health | Monday 25 April 2011 9:27 pm

Everyone has experienced discomfort in an individual form or a second in 1 part of their entire body or one more more than the course of their lives. At times the discomfort lasts for just several seconds, oftentimes just a few minutes, typically hours or days, and once in a whilst, physical distress becomes continual, continuing for months or years. What is it about physical distress that can make uncomfortable feelings last for just a handful of seconds with a weird misfiring in the nervous product, or final for decades with persistent syndromes such as fibromyalgia, a serious situation that causes widespread pain over a large number of regions of the entire body?

Whenever someone has a painful experiencing, it happens to be greatest not to ignore it. The mind evaluates numerous inputs in the skin, muscles, as well as other tissues when determining regardless of whether the overall body is in peril or not. From time to time the soreness message is immediate and clear, these kinds of as putting a finger in boiling water. But other instances, the condition of your tissues may perhaps not clearly indicate ache a single way or a second, so it will be the mental faculties that decides irrespective of whether the tissues are at risk and irrespective of whether to deliver a message to the human body to get the endangered finger or limb out for the way. Ignoring these kinds of messages when they first occur can lead for the discomfort continuing for longer intervals of time or causing a great deal more tissue harm.

The mind constructs its anguish feelings and messages by way of many inputs. A large number of instances, the experiencing comes straight in the tissues themselves, this kind of as when someone gets a paper lower and has an immediate sensation of burning and discomfort. But other occasions, the mental faculties does not sense that the tissues are in danger, this sort of as when someone is playing sports and sustains a lower or scrape but does not feel it until he or she notices that the damage has caused bleeding. Seeing the harm can assist the brain construct the suffering experiencing from the visual input. So tenderness can be considered a conscious encounter that is constructed by means of unconscious processes whereby the human brain decides — based on a number of sensory inputs — if or not to construct the agony feelings.

In terms of soreness that lasts for lengthy periods of time, the human brain keeps constructing these discomfort messages regardless of one’s high quality with the tissues. The mind perceives a a part of the body to be in danger, so it creates agony. In fact, messages between the nerves as well as the mind can travel in both directions. A paper lower may trigger a message to go in the webpage of harm towards the mind that some thing is wrong, and then the human brain sends back the discomfort feeling based on the inputs. But the human brain can also ship a soreness feeling for the tissues without the tissues originally sending a clear indication within the condition from the tissues. In truth, the brain and nerves can become way more sensitized with continual physical distress and deliver the messages a lot more efficiently and far more normally.

Everyone suffers from injury and tissue deterioration at an individual time or an additional throughout their lives. But regardless of whether or not that harm is sufficient to cause painful feelings is evaluated by the mental, which examines whether or not or not particular deterioration puts the physique in danger. And it’s not just the harm itself that the mind uses to evaluate this level of hazard, as it takes into account many different sensory inputs, which include the visual technique, in order to produce the physical distress encounter. This is each why elite athletes carry on playing vital games with fractures, and why persistent suffering may likely continue extended after an damage has healed.

Learn About The Benefits Of Chiropractic Treatment

Posted by admin | Health | Monday 25 April 2011 9:27 pm

In the present times, an increasing number of people are doing away with medicines and instead switching to natural cures for several health afflictions. Chiropractic treatment is one such natural therapy which is fast gaining popularity owing to its various advantages. Here’s a look at some of such benefits.

The first and foremost advantage of chiropractic treatment is that it strengthens the immune system. As the immune system gets strong enough, it gets easy for the body to attain optimal health levels. In the absence of strong immunity, the body tends to fall prey to every small viral and bacterial infection and that too very often. Chiropractic treatment ensures that the individual is resistant to problems like colds. In case one still falls prey to such troubles, the symptoms aren’t severe.

If you suffer from pain every now and then, you have an added reason to use chiropractic treatment. It could locate the exact cause of pain and also help rectify the same. Regular chiropractic care can go at length in strengthening the muscles that surround your nerves. This could help in avoiding the pain significantly. Nevertheless, this wouldn’t be of much help in avoiding toothache. Chiropractic treatment only tackles body pain and can do no good to your teeth.

Another benefit of chiropractic treatment is that it enhances the range of movement. This simply improves your ability of bending, jumping, taking bigger steps and stretching the body without any difficulty. This practice is thus ideal suited for all those people who are recuperating after an accident and serious injury. Accidents and injuries may greatly hinder the movement of the body to a great extent. This is when chiropractic treatment can come to help by reviving these lost movements, enabling you to become as fit as ever.

It is a recognized fact that medications could trigger some or the other side effects. Even the most popular medicines for lowering blood pressure can cause side effects. The danger of undesired side effects is even higher with OTC painkillers. Chiropractic treatment helps you cut down on this risk. It enables you to manage pain naturally. As a result, you don’t have to take a pain relieving medicine every now and then. This saves you from many harmful effects.

While you are undertaking chiropractic treatment, you may discover various health troubles that were earlier unknown. At times, these troubles could be outside the realm of chiropractic healing. In that kind of situation, make sure that you ask your health care provider. This will help you make the most from your chiropractic treatment.

So, in case you wish to keep distance from the health problems in a natural yet effective manner, then going in for chiropractic is the finest option for you.

Is My Pain From A Low Back Problem Or My Hip Joint?

Posted by admin | Health | Wednesday 20 April 2011 8:05 am

Pain that is in the groin or around the hip area could or could not be a result of a hip problem. The pain can also be coming from a low back spinal problem.

The potential generators of the pain can be:

1) Hip joint arthritis or a soft tissue problem inside the hip joint (labrum)

2) Intervertebral disc herniation

3) Spinal Stenosis

4) Soft tissue problem around the hip

5) Fracture in the spine

6) Hip Fracture

Hip arthritis pain or a labral tear may cause significant pain in the groin area on the affected side. Physical examination and x-rays will typically confirm the culprit as degenerative joint disease (DJD) in the hip. If the patient receives a hip injection as treatment and the pain is eliminated even for an hour, one can be certain the hip is in fact the problem with further treatments confined to the hip.

Groin pain can also be a result of a disc herniation. It’s not something typically seen in a textbook and it is an atypical presentation, but an L5-S1 disc herniation can in fact cause groin pain on the affected side. So if the exam and radiologic studies of the hip are not definitive for a hip problem, potentially obtain and MRI of the lumbar spine for the answer.

Pain that is around the hip joint may be coming from the spine. It is called radiating pain if it emanates from a spinal problem and then travels down into the buttock area or hip region. One such problem is called spinal stenosis, which represents nerve root compression at one or multiple levels from an arthritic process.

Spinal stenosis typically occurs in older individuals that may also be experiencing pain in the hip from arthritis. So the hip pain may be a mixture or pain radiating from spinal stenosis combined with the direct pain from degenerative arthritis in the hip. How does one make the diagnosis then.

The combination of a competent physical examination, thorough patient history, and imaging studies often clarifies the pain source. If there’s still a question mark, injections can give the answer. Here is an illustration. Betty is 74 and suffering from pain in the front and outside of her right hip daily. Activity exacerbates the pain, and often causes her to wake up during the night. Additionally it spreads down her thigh in the front a little.

She is convinced the pain is coming from her hip since she has no back pain at all. On physical examination while moving her right hip all over the place, however, she has minimal provocation of her pain. X-rays show moderate arthritis in her right hip, with the same degenerative joint disease existing on her left side as well.

The physician orders x-rays and an MRI of Betty’s lumbar spine which shows numerous nerve roots being compressed as they are trying to get out from the spine on the right side. So she has a condition called spinal stenosis.

As a diagnostic test, the physician performs a right hip injection under x-ray guidance. Betty’s pain reduced only by twenty percent over the following 3 days. So the physician sent Betty to a pain doctor the following week who performed an interventional pain management procedure called an epidural injection.

And you know what happened? Betty’s pain decreased another 50% after the first injection and another 20% with the second injection, adding up to a 90% pain reduction with the epidural injections. Both the spinal injections and the hip injection therefore served both a diagnostic and therapeutic purpose.

It is imperative to remember that pain around the hip can be a result partly or completely from a spine problem. This can be the difference between a frustrated patient still in pain versus one who shows dramatic improvement.

Lumbar Selective Nerve Blocks – What Are They?

Posted by admin | Health | Tuesday 12 April 2011 8:05 am

The incidence of one having a lumbar herniated disc in the US is one percent, which makes it a very common phenomenon. If the disk herniation is evident on imaging studies and pertains to the patient symptoms of sciatica and radiculopathy, the treatment options are clear.

Physical therapy, epidural injections , pain medication, spinal decompression therapy, chiropractic treatment, essentially anything non-operative and if after 6-8 weeks the pain persists the option for surgery is thrown into the mix.

What happens when a patient has sciatica that does not correlate with significant findings on imaging studies? For instance, the patient has symptoms in the right lower extremity consistent with an L5 radiculopathy, but there’s no obvious compression on the right side at L5 when looking at the MRI.

That’s when a Lumbar Selective Nerve Root Block can help. The pain doctor thinks sciatica is coming from pathology at the level of the nerve root but wants to both 1) Confirm the suspicions and 2) Provide pain relief for the patient. So the Lumbar Selective Nerve Root Block serves both a diagnostic and a therapeutic purpose.

The technique for the spinal injection is to place numbing medicine plus or minus steroid just as one would perform a transforaminal epidural injection. The numbing medicine bathes the nerve root that is suspected of causing the symptoms and then the patient keeps a log of subsequent pain relief achieved. One wants to place the numbing medicine directly around the suspected nerve root, not around the region before the nerve root comes off from the dural sac. That region is general and can give confusing results.

Once the doctor sees the result, it can help going forward with treatment decisions such as physical therapy, phoenix chiropractor, pain management, spinal decompression, whether that treatment consists of further non-operative methods or spine surgical intervention.
