According to studies, 46 million people in the US alone suffer from a form of arthritis. This joint disease constrains into early retirement employee who fail to perform a range of physical activities. The person more or less has no other choice but to take on a sedentary lifestyle.
It’s important for anyone suffering from arthritis to understand what it is. This way, coping mechanisms may come easier. Did you know that there are more than 100 forms of the joint disease? Its classification is based on causes and the signs and symptoms experienced. But there are two major types of this disease which many people suffer from.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the wearing and tearing of the cartilage in the joints. It’s the most common form of the disease worldwide. OA can be the result of aging, obesity and earlier being involved in strenuous activities like sports. Weight bearing joints are usually the sites attacked by OA. These include the feet, knees, hips and back. Joints that are usually overused may also suffer from it, like the elbows, shoulders and others.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder. Simply put, your own immune system mistakenly attacks your joints. It is a chronic and painful inflammatory disease, and can lead to joint damage and deformities. RA can occur at any age. It can even affect individuals in their early 20′s. The disease also tends to infect joints in a symmetrical pattern. For example, if your right wrist suffers from it, then your left also suffers from it.
Pain is usually dealt with through medications. Analgesics such as ibuprofen or paracetamol are used for pain. But with inflammation around, NSAIDs (Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs) are administered to reduce swelling. Steroids are also being prescribed, but long-term use poses some side effects. Steroids injected directly to the joints, instead of orally taken, may limit such side effects.
To help with joint mobility, performing mild exercises is advised. For example, leg arthritis will benefit from doing a few minutes of walking. But during flare ups, even mild exercises may be very difficult to perform. Pain can be so severe, than even little movements prove to be unbearable.
There are also natural means of coping with the signs and symptoms of arthritis. Some people who aren’t satisfied with the results of prescribed medications resort to such alternatives. Many swear by the alkaline diet – a diet composed of mainly fruits and vegetables. This diet is great for offsetting excessive acidity in the body, which is linked to arthritis. Also, there are supplements like fish oils, vegetarian glucosamine and chondroitin that help repair worn cartilages and lubricate the joints.
One of the hardest things about growing older is adjusting to the new ways our bodies work. A friend of ours who’s a real athlete – he plays ice hockey in the winter – was complaining about how he can’t get the puck out of corners anymore and he blamed his increasing arthritis. His wife laughed and told him it wasn’t the arthritis, it’s because he’s now in his 50s!
For instance, one of our friends has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. He’s been struggling to get his insulin dosage right. Recently he heard about an extract from something call an agaricus brazil mushroom.
Apparently this remedy, when combined with other diabetes medications, serves to decrease insulin resistance, a common problem in people with Type 2 diabetes. It’s not a cure-all, though, because most experts recommend it only be taken for about 12 weeks, because sometimes it can make blood sugar go too low. Some people have used this particular supplement as a way to reduce their side effects from chemotherapy, but there’s no scientific evidence supporting that yet.
One remedy that seems to help a lot of people with their joints is kirkland glucosamine. Apparently this supplement helps to provide support for the cartilage around the joints, which tends to get thinner as we age. By giving more support to the cartilage that cushions our joints, the joints themselves hold up better and move more freely.
Another friend of ours is distressed by her increased osteoarthritis, especially in her hands. She’s wonderful at crochet, which involves a lot of repetitive movement. She regularly makes baby things for a local charity that provides blankets and clothes for the young mothers in low-income families. She’s very fond of this kind of work, so she’s always looking for way to ease her discomfort. She’s tried a lot of arthritis remedies to reduce the swelling and inflammation in her hands.
She’s found some help with one combined painkiller/anti-inflammatory medicine that she can get over the counter, but like our friend with diabetes, she worries about possible side effects.
As far as we’re concerned, we’ve been convinced by the many scientific studies of recent years that growing older can be managed better if we keep our minds active. Maybe we’re just playful kids at heart, but we feel good about playing board and video games and working on number puzzles and crosswords. Physically we might be able to keep up with gardening or walk the dog daily, but that’s quite an accomplishment for former ‘couch potatoes’ like us!
Magnetic healing has been proven to work. New stronger medical magnets have been proven to decrease inflammation and increase blood flow to joints and tissue. Speeds healing, and are used by athletes and millions of people world wide.
Are Your Suffering From Chronic Arthritis Pain?
Is Your Pain Holding you Back?
If you answered yes, then you may want to try the newer stronger magnetic health products that are now a multi-billion dollar business. These are not refrigerator magnets, but powerful medical magnets that have been designed for medical use.
Arthritis pain is hard to live with but knowledge is the key to obtaining pain relief for a better day to day life. Arthritis pain relief can be sourced in a lot of ways and arthritis treatment and symptom relief might include arthritis medication or a wide range of other options.
Joint supplements such as glucosamine are reported to affect knee arthritis pain positively and without side effects, even so, there is still not enough evidence to suggest that future research is unnecessary. If knee arthritis is your problem then Another, largely debated treatment is arthroscopy. Joint motion and function are good with this treatment because healthy parts of the knee are preserved. This is an inexpensive treatment with a short recuperation period which is a big plus.
Given the widespread belief that weather can have a big influence on arthritis pain, it’s probably best to assume there is a lot about arthritis that we do not yet understand. If it is true that arthritis sufferers can predict the weather, it might be the only good thing about having arthritis. Although Studies that objectively measured inflammation found no associations with weather patterns.
Osteoarthritis, also called degenerative joint disease, not only reduces elasticity and lubrication in the joints, but weakens muscles and loosens ligaments. This degeneration of cartilage can occur in any joints, but is more commonly seen in the lower back, neck, hands and hips. Osteoarthritis usually develops in dislocated joints and broken bones.
Chronic arthritis pain , such as that seen in people with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, ranges from mild to severe and can last weeks, months, and years to a lifetime.
If you suffer from osteoarthritis then, Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is recommended by the American College of Rheumatology as the first line of treatment. Taken in doses of up to 4 grams a day it can provide blessed relief from the pain of arthritis without the side effects of some non prescription drugs.

Alternative therapies are not new concepts.
Most holistic, natural therapeutic or other name that they may be labeled with have been around for millions of years. In Western society they have been stamped down, and muffled by main stream clinicians.
However, they are rising quickly to the fore front of many new arthritis treatments. Magnetic arthritis reliefhealing therapy is one leading the pack. Healing magnetic products sales have quadrupled over the last few years. Non invasive, free of side affects, studies are showing that it is not an off the wall therapy, it is showing success and merit, and western clinicians are starting to sit up and take note of the fact.
A Safer Way To Get Arthritic Pain Relief
Pain relief from “Over The Counter” or prescribed drugs, while providing a degree of pain relief, can work against you in the form of dangerous side-effects. Natural, or herbal, medications will not create dangerous side-effects when properly used.
All forms of arthritis involve some degree of pain. Patterns of pain differ among the different forms and parts of the body that suffer from one form of arthritis or another. Five of the most common forms of arthritis are:
1… Osteoarthritis
2… Rheumatoid arthritis
3… Septic arthritis
4… Gout and pseudo gout
5… Juvenile arthritis
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis gives us the most pain during night time hours, and Rheumatoid arthritis gives a good deal of pain in the morning. One interesting point is that this type of arthritis doesn’t show any arthritic symptoms after a morning shower. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is considered a chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the joints. It is a disabling and painful inflammatory condition, which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction.
Septic arthritis is bacteria forms in the joints and causes inflammation. Gout, or metabolic arthritis, is a disease caused by inborn uric acid metabolism. Middle-aged males are the most prevalent victims of gout and is hereditary in nature. The most famous victim of gout is King Henry VIII(1491-1547). Juvenile Chronic Arthritis (JCA) targets children between the ages of one and four. Currently there is known cause for this type of arthritis.
In elderly people and children, pain may not be the main feature, and the patient simply moves less (elderly) or refuses to use the affected limb (children).
A physical examination will confirms the diagnosis of an onset of arthritis. Diagnostic radiography is often used to follow progression or assess severity in a more quantitative manner.
Many steroids and Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, both over the counter and prescription drugs, are used as a pain reliever for the different forms of arthritis. While it’s true that these types of drugs can, and do, a very good job of providing pain relief there can be a trade off in getting arthritic pain relief; side effects from the drugs. An adverse effect is a harmful and undesired effect resulting from a medication and can begin when the drug is first taken or when increasing or discontinuing a treatment.
* Some of the adverse side effects are:
1… Liver Damage
2… Kidney Damage
3… A rise or lowering of blood pressure
4… Muscle pain in the arms and legs.
5… Weakness in the arms and legs
6… Fatigue
The harmful side effects must be pointed out when a drug is advertised on TV by law. It may be my imagination but it seems that a faster pace and lower volume is used when the side effects are mentioned.I believe that is to downplay the possible harm and risk involved. In the real world the sale of the drug comes first. One would have to wonder if the benefit of the drug is worth the risk when considering the possible side effects.
PAIN RELIEF NATURALLY
People in all continents have long used hundreds, if not thousands, of indigenous plants for treatment of various ailments dating back to prehistory. Using herbs is a folk and traditional medicinal practice based on the use of plants and plant extracts.
The healing property of plants is an ancient practice. Research has identified specific active anti-inflammatory ingredients in herb. In animal studies, these herbs have been shown to reduce inflammation significantly in several ways and improved blood flow to the joints.
Many of these natural herbs help to ease symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. One herb ingredient knows as Boswellia, can be taken internally as well as applied topically to affected joints to relieve inflammation associated with these joint disorders. The use of and search for drugs and dietary supplements derived from plants have accelerated in recent years. Pharmacologists, microbiologists, botanists, and natural-products chemists are combing the earth for phytochemicals (pronounced photo-chemicals and is a non-nutritive bioactive plant substance, such as a flavonoid or carotenoid, considered to have a beneficial effect on human health.) and leads that could be developed for treatment of various diseases. In fact, many modern drugs have been derived from plants.
Dangerously low blood pressure may result from the combination of an herbal remedy that lowers blood pressure together with prescription medicine that has the same effect. In particular, many herbs should be avoided during pregnancy. Some herbal remedies have the potential to cause adverse drug interactions when used in combination with various prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals. This essentially means that you should not mix over the counter or prescription drugs with herbal type drugs. It really isn’t necessary.
